The UK is among the worst hit by the COVID pandemic, but must be prepared for some “potential bumps in the road”, according to the scientist who helped shape Britain’s lockdown strategy.
Neil Ferguson, a leading epidemiologist at Imperial College London, said that things were looking up as the country reached the peak of another wave of coronavirus infections.
“I am optimistic that the bulk of the pandemic is behind us in terms of deaths and hospitalizations. While we should still be prepared for some potential bumps down the road,” he said, any new variant – which was highly likely to arise – could have a less dramatic impact than Omicron.
