Jabeur goes long on the backhand to deliver Lynette, who leads 2-1 in the decider, a sniff at 30-all. But Jaboor closes early, and it’s getting stressful.
Stephens now leads Niemeyer 5-4 in set two, having lost the first. I can go on to start watching it, because this team match is pretty much over.
Back to Matthew, Thiem is showing no signs, although he has just saved a break point. The thing is, he can hit winners here and there, but there is a complete lack of consistency, and he begins to serve-volley to try and force the point, eventually stopping the double break. gives. He’s still in it, that’s all. Delian 6-3 6-2 3-2 Thiem
A Jabeur backhand falls long, handing Lynette two set points… and she only needs one! A wild forehand flies wide, and the number six seed, playing an opponent whose speed is hampered by injury, must play the decider! It’s been a really fun match, and although Jabeur looks to be the better player, I wouldn’t be shocked if Lynette did enough to win big points!
Jabeur gets the first mini-break but Lynette hits a forehand that breaks the sideline to quickly take off balance. Then, an error from Jabeur gives Lynette a mini break at 5-3…
Tremendous work from Lynette to reach 40-0, but then a brilliant forehand in the backhand corner gives Jabeur a slight sniff; She walks long, and we’ve got ourselves a breaker in set two…
An ace out, his seventh, wide throw gives 40-30, follows an error from Lynette, And at 4-6 5-6, Lynette would again work to stay in the match while Thiem broke Dalien in the first game of set three. He is not tall for this competition.
Grizzi Dimitrov now leads Marcos Giron 6-1 6-1 3-0.
Delian serves with ease, and is now 6-3 6-2 ahead of Thiem! Thiem seemed fine at first, but was very bad the second time I thought he would get better.
Thiem held on, forcing Dalian to serve at 5-2 for the second set, While Jaboor saves a break point with a speedy serve at 6-3 4-4, Lynette makes a gimme blunder. A serve-winning tee follows down, and Lynette must now serve to stay in the match.
Christia beat Maria 3 and 3 – She next meets either Stephens or Niemeyer, at which point Niemeyer has broken back into set two and is now 7-5 1-2.
Thiem walks back to his seat, a glimmer of resignation appears on his coupon – That set is broken for the second time in two, and what seemed like a decent competition now seems over Thiem just can’t stop the cheap errors. Delian 6-4 4-1 Thiem
Stephens Niemeyer has a break up in set two, trailing 5-7 2-0, While 26th-ranked Chrystia is ahead of Maria 6-3 5-3.
It looked like Jabeur could seal the gas and release Lynette – the bay in the square was clear at the business end of set one – but we are serving 6-3 3-2 in set two. In addition to making an ace for 40–0, Lynette lost focus, at 15–40, Jaboor found nasty drop, sidespin takes him away from his opponent, and we wind up on deuce; Lynette saves a break point, then rips a gorgeous forehand cross-court to finally level things up.
Niemeyer actually won the first set against 2018 finalist Stephens; He leads 7-5 0-1.
As I was saying that will happen, Delian breaks Thiem in the opening game of set two; He has won almost all the big points so far, while his opponent has given away a lot of cheap points trying to get into form. Delian 6-3 1-0 Thiem

Delian works for the set at 5-3 and Thiem reaches 40-30, but a huge forehand from the east, taken from above shoulder height, slams a backhand into the net. There’s a long way to go here, though – Thiem is playing really well, he just isn’t winning as many points, while Dalien has only made four unforces. Meanwhile, a qualifier, Niemeyer, is serving 6-5 for the first set against Stephens.
Lynette takes medical timeout for thigh injury as Dalion holds up for 5-2 She’s gone for six minutes or so, but they’re back at it now.
Dimitrov beat Giron 6-1. given the first set from And Christia did the same with Maria, 6-3.
Yep, Jabeur is in it now, serving easily to take the first set 6-3. Lynette took it hard in the beginning, but there’s something different about her opponent in the last year or so, and it’s hard to see her lose matches like this now.
Thiem is pushing, forcing Delian to deuce, but a drop in advantage has kept his advantage – it is now 4-1 – Whereas, on Chattier, Jaboor leads Lynette 5-3 and will work for the set after that even if she loses the next game.
Jabeur breaks up the linet and then struggles through a hold for 4-2 – she’s being made to fight, but she’s more than capable. Back on Matthews, Thiem is down 0-40, and though he reaches 40-30, this time Delian secures the break for 3-1. However, you can see that the Austrian is settling.
Lynette immediately breaks up, and also to love. He and Jaboor are now level 2-2; Stephens and Niemeyer are 2-2; Grizzi Dimitrov has a breakup over Giron, the same way Chrystia over Maria. Meanwhile, Delian is warned for taking too long on his serve, raising the issue of the umpire pushing the line of the spectators’ eyes. The umpire immediately apologizes and takes back his call, no he doesn’t.
Thiem delivers a break point with a trademark backhand down the line, Won the game by taking the opening door, then hitting the backhand corner, opening the court, and clearing the space with the forehand. Delian 1-1 Thiem
Lynette starts off confidently, and Jabur has to dig in to hold on 1-1 – she comes back 15-30, Meanwhile, Thiem is slowly backing himself from 0-1 and 0-30, making game point with a forehand drop. But he can’t close it all, finds himself facing a break point and, as I type, Jabeur converts one for a 2-1 lead in a set one against Lynette. gave.
As for Thiem, how great is it to see him back? He was injured and out of form at the last minute, so is ranked well outside the top 100 in the world – which makes him an extremely dangerous floater in draws.

For now, at least, I’m looking at Jabeur v Linette and Thiem v Dellien. Jabeur believes she can win a Major, and who wouldn’t be delighted to see it happen. I think she can, which is a given, and women’s tennis is currently the least anticipated sport in the world, but as an all-round package she is never a favourite.
