Hat-trick for Kyle Abbott!
That’s all changed at Cheltenham! Kyle Abbott dismissed Miles Hammond on the last ball before lunch, and he dismissed Zafar Gohar and Tom Price with the first two balls of the afternoon session. Tremendous stuff.
Gloucestershire is 316-8, with a lead of 60. This is Abbott’s second hat-trick for Hampshire; His first was against Worcestershire in 2018.

If we are talking about the lovely sound of the bat on the ball then Robin Smith’s square cut has to be mentioned. Has there ever been a loud player/stroke combination?

Sussex all the way suddenly at Lord’s, They slipped 53-1 to 69-5, an insufficient lead of 107. Tom Helm 3-14, while Umesh Yadav bowled Tom Clarke for 56.
This is an absolute sniff of Tom Helm To dismiss Cheteshwar Pujara
Lancashire beat Northamptonshire by four wickets
Will Williams (29*) and Washington Sundar (34*) led Lancashire to victory at Northampton. It was a resounding victory for Lancashire, who trail 103 in the first innings in a low-scoring game.
Northerners (235 and 174) lost to Lancashire (132 & 278-6) by four wickets
Kent beat Warwickshire by 177 runs
Matt Milnes dismissed Oliver Hannon-Dalby to complete Kent’s crushing win at Edgbaston. Sam Billings ends with 12 dismissals, a new County Championship record, while the champion is being dragged to a relegation table.#
Warwickshire (225 and 147) lost to (Kent 165 and 384-9d) by 177 runs
some news on oli stone, Which is apparently going to Nottinghamshire.
Northants vs Lancashire
Lancashire are getting closer to a really tough win at Northampton. Will Williams and Washington Sundar put them 268-6, needing another 10 to win.
“Not at all in King Viv’s league” But a lovely square bites everyone equally,” writes James Calder. “The batsman is a South African kid called Tian Brits, who has made some waves in Scottish club cricket this season. He made a cracking ton in this match (against a Meigle side that made it to the last 16 of the Vonus Village Cup this season), but sadly he has torn his knee ligaments and is set to miss the rest of the season. Chances are. Get well soon, Tian!”
A lovely sound off the bat too.
Centuries for Ingram and Northeast
Glamorgan continue to gallop at Leicester – they are 227-2 in 57 overs in reply to Leicestershire’s 584. Colin Ingram is 100*, Sam Northeast is 106*.
No world record for Sam Billings
Another catch at Edgbaston and bowled, this time by Jack Leaning to get rid of Craig Miles. Kent are one wicket away from a crushing victory over the champions and Sam Billings is still stuck with 12 dismissals.
Scorecard connoisseurs of the world unite
Rob, thanks for that Mashonaland / Matabeleland conflict. There’s plenty to enjoy from the scorecard, not just the shameless jug of Wayne James to escape. Despite being 1/2 (including a hit wicket) in the first innings and 15/4 in the second, Matabeleland’s victory and two fairly spectacular Mashonland falls. It’s worth watching for anyone who enjoys imagining what this match must have been like.

Here’s the scorecard again in case you want to take a look again.
Here is the updated Division One table, If Hampshire don’t win today, Surrey will have a decent cushion at the top.
Midx vs Sussex
The Sussexes have lost a few wickets early on at Lord’s, including Cheteshwar Pujara. They lead 65-3, 103 with Tom Clarke 54 not out.

Works 107-8
Matt Milnes is determined to deprive Sam Billings of the world record. After cleaning Dom Sibley, he has now given a catch to Danny Briggs on his own ball. Kent is two wickets away.
Billings sets new county championship record
It’s worth noting Sam Billings’ performance for Kent. He is the first man in County Championship history to be dismissed 12 times in a match. Only the second time this happened in first-class cricket in England was in 1868.
The world record is 14 dismissals. Second on the list is Zimbabwe keeper Wayne James, who dismissed 13 Mashonaland batsmen in a Logan Cup game in 1996. And He scored 99 runs in both the innings.
It sounds like I’m exaggerating James’ performance, but it’s true. I remember reading about it in the news section of Wisden Cricket Monthly. Why it stayed in the bank ahead of some of the more soulful or seismic moments of my life, I don’t know.
Dom Sibley won’t carry his bat, He was bowled by Matt Milnes for 33 and Warwickshire scored 98-7. It has been a helluva comeback from Kent, who went down in the first innings but were probably going to win by about 200 runs.
Northants vs Lanks
Lancashire continues to receive them in singles (mostly). Will Williams and Washington Sundar have added 31 runs in 17 overs and Lancashire need 38 more runs to win.
Warwickshire vs Kento
The home team is getting weaker at Edgbaston. They are now 98-6, chasing 325, with Dom Sibley alone on the burning deck. He can take his bat by scoring 33 not out.
thank you for viriditan BTL to indicate that Kent wicketkeeper/captain Sam Billings has now taken 12 (TWELVE) catches in the match.
Spoiler: It’s raining
Surrey beat Essex by six wickets
It’s another good win for the leaders, their sixth of the season, and they amassed 22 points. Ollie Pope completes the job with a reverse sweep off Simon Harmer.
Surrey 319 & 162-4 V Essex 271 and 208
Surrey win by six wickets
Surrey vs Essex
Jamie Overton took Surrey to the pinnacle of victory, a moment before he was dismissed for 21 off 14 balls. Surrey need four to win.
Miles Hammond completes 150!
Gloucestershire continue to disappoint Hampshire at Cheltenham. Miles Hammond extends his career-best innings to 151 not out: 235 balls, 23×4, 3×6, 2x dropped this morning.
Leix vs Glamorgan
Colin Ingram and Sam are running side-by-side in NorthEast Leicester. Both men are 84 not out as I type – Ingram off 151 balls, 122 to northeast.
It’s three days there, and a high scoring draw is on the cards.
Lance 232-6 (Large 278) vs Northants
Morning Rob, Morning All.
Stressful stuff on Vantage Road.
Not many runs are being scored and I see the lanky men working. One of them is from below and the other is called Washington Sundar. Somebody should write a song about it.
